90210 3.01 “Senior Year, Baby!” Recap/Review

The West Beverly kids are back and is it just me or did they NOT disappoint tonight?
Seeing the promos for 90210 this summer scared me, because we were left in extreme dark times this past May and the sunny ‘happy-go-lucky’ theme of the teasers made me think that said dark past was swept under a rug never to be seen again. Luckily, that wasn’t the case tonight with mostly everyone coming back from the summer hiding secrets and hungry for more drama. Now with that being said, I was still a little perturbed about several glaring gaps left open, so I compiled a list of the pros and cons of tonight’s season three opener.
Annie’s Hit and Run Case – Are We Done With It? Answer: YES!
Pros – Annie (and we) finally got a solution to the storyline from hell as she has a clean slate to start anew. She told her parents and the cops what happened and she was put on probation, spending her summer on house arrest for her deeds. Meanwhile, Ryan Matthews hooked Annie up with an internship, that would probably require her to lie about her hit and run incident. After surviving an earthquake, house arrest, and the break up of her family, Annie came out strong and told the truth to the interviewer, who eventually gave Annie the internship.
Cons – Annie got a clean slate, barely a slap on the wrist. Not a good message to send to people. Another con is Jasper is still roaming the streets. That’s all I will say about that. Also, that internship? Might be another hell on earth storyline for our dear Annie as we find out that it might not be as pleasant as she thought.
Did Mr. Cannon Really Rape Naomi? – Answer: Yes (Bastard).
Pros – Are you kidding me?!?! No pros here except that Naomi will probably have the most riveting storyline this season and that she actually went to the police on the rat faced bastard.
Cons – Tons. First off, Naomi is staying in a cheap hotel barely getting by and trying to keep up appearances at the same time. Secondly, Naomi has to face her attacker again, who is now Annie’s homeroom teacher and Silver’s senior advisor. Yikes! Naomi’s visit to the police station is a dead end since she starts to think she deserved to get raped for her actions last year. She begins to feel unsexy and probably sluttish, which sets the stage for her to nearly make a fool of herself at a party. Luckily, Teddy stops her, but when Naomi comes on to him, with Silver walking in on this moment, Naomi realizes that she’s screwed up, alone, and not herself anymore. I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Who Was The Person Who Died During The Quake? Answer: Javier.
Pros – While I don’t wish death on anyone, Javier’s death by car accident was sudden and kind of ‘justified.’ He was talking real nasty to Adrianna for not choosing him over Navid, telling Ade he was dropping her from the tour and that she was not as talented as everyone thought she was. Javier was also telling Ade about the music he was writing, which he kept in a notebook and was going to give to another girl to sing. Then a car hits their limo and kills him instantly. Ade survived, but Javier’s songbook did as well…
Cons – More drama for Adrianna. But is that really a con? After finding out from Laurel that she is in fact not the hottest thing on the market, Ade passes Javier’s songbook as her own to prove that she has what it takes to make it. She has already duped one person in this debacle: Navid. Boy, she keeps screwing up with this man…
The Teen Whose Life Was Affected In The Earthquake? Answer: Teddy (Duh).
Pros – Teddy will have to deal with his injury during the quake, which happened when a desk fell on his leg. He injures said leg further in a tennis match later that day. Luckily, he has Silver and his friends by his side.
Cons – We will have to deal with major jerkitude for the time being.
Other Developments
Dixon is not feeling Ivy’s old childhood friend Oscar (Blair Redford), who not only has a pet name for Ivy (“Gidget”), but he’s also staying with Ivy for the school year. This doesn’t sit well with Dixon, who Ivy thinks should give the overbearing boyfriend role a rest. However, she is having sex daydreams about Oscar, but doesn’t act on them when Oscar wants to. He’s cool with that, though. Why? Cause he’s sexing up Ivy’s mom, Laurel, for the time being. Is there a combo word for ‘wow’ and ‘ew’ that I can use?
Liam wants Annie and he wants her bad, but our resident Drama Queen doesn’t want to play The Lying Game anymore, wanting to get Naomi’s blessing first. Liam doesn’t care about Naomi’s blessing. Besides, I don’t think Naomi would really care right now what Liam is up to…
Debbie is not taking Harry’s desertion well, but Annie and Dixon are there to help her pick up the pieces. I’m also willing to see how this will turn out, hoping that Debbie gets something more to do than worry 24/7.
Ryan Matthews is really trying to be a good man this year, and wants Jen to see this. If she doesn’t, then he will take her to court. I pray he wins custody.
I think this season has gotten off to a great start. Now the question is if 90210 can keep this up? Thoughts?
