The Raw Tag Team Championship has been in its current iteration since 2016, although the title has a lineage that dates back to 2002 when the first brand split happened. Then, the WWE Tag Team Championship became exclusive to Smackdown and was first held by Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. Since its inception, the Raw Tag Team Championship has seen 32 reigns across many different teams. But which teams are the best?
Here are the top 10 best WWE Raw Tag Team Champions.
10. The OC
Following their successful run as part of the Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson returned to the WWE as The OC, again partnering with former Bullet Club stablemates AJ Styles and Fin Balor. The OC would first win the Raw Tag Team Championship at Royal Rumble 2017, becoming the second ever team to hold the gold, before losing them to a returning Hardy Boyz at WrestleMania 33. Next, the pair would win the Raw Tag Team Championships on July 29th, 2019, from The Revival, before losing them just three weeks later to Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins. Today, The OC is known as The Good Brothers and is currently signed to Impact Wrestling while also making appearances for All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
9. Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy
The Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt team was an unexpected pairing, but it made a lot of sense. Matt Hardy had returned to the WWE following his incredibly successful “Broken” gimmick, and Bray Wyatt’s supernatural gimmick was in full swing. The duo first feuded numerous times until Matt pushed Bray into the “Lake of Reincarnation,” finally forming a tag team. The pair would hold the Raw Tag Team Championship for three months, winning it at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in 2018 after being vacated at WrestleMania 34, before losing them to The B-Team at Extreme Rules. The team would have likely enjoyed a much longer run had Matt Hardy not gotten injured.
8. The Viking Raiders
The Viking Raiders made an immediate impact when they arrived in NXT, and their momentum carried over when they jumped to the main roster too. The team would capture the Raw Tag Team Championship from Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in October 2019 and held them for three months before losing to Buddy Murphy and Seth Rollins.
7. The Hurt Business
With MVP as their manager, the team of Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin was one of the best teams in the entire WWE. Unfortunately, WWE creative split the Hurt Business up and hurt all its members’ momentum except Bobby Lashley, which is a shame. But Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin enjoyed a three-month reign as champions from December 2020 to March 2021.
6. AJ Styles and Olmos
AJ Styles and Omos is a team that looks like it wouldn’t work on paper, but the two had incredible chemistry and enjoyed a dominant four-month reign as Raw Tag Team Champions from WrestleMania 37 to Summerslam 2021. Unfortunately, the two are no longer a team, with Omos aligning himself with MVP. Still, the time the two spent together helped Omos tremendously from an in-ring perspective and got over with the WWE Universe.
5. The Street Profits
The development of Angelo and Montez is something that cannot be overstated. They’ve been on an ascent to the pinnacle of the tag team hierarchy since their days in NXT. It would be great if Triple H could make the most of these guys’ talent now that they are in a tag team title fight with The Usos. But, for Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford, the sky is the limit.
4. The Bar
Cesaro and Sheamus were the first tag team to hold the current design of the tag titles. Since WWE Roadblock, they have become record-setting four-time Raw Tag Team Champions. To describe themselves, they adopted The Bar, saying, “We don’t simply set the bar; we are the bar!” This is the best phase of Cesaro’s career in which he should be elevated to leading event status.
3. The Usos
If one team stayed consistent throughout their years in the WWE, It would have to be The Usos. Backed by their Samoan lineage, they were dominant the minute they were put on the main roster, and they never skipped a beat now that they’re aligned with Roman Reigns, capturing the Raw tag team titles for the third time.
2. RK-Bro
If you were to poll the people who make up the WWE Universe and ask them to choose their favorite tag team at the moment, an overwhelming majority of them would probably pick RK-Bro. The odd pairing combination of Randy Orton and Riddle piqued the audience’s interest because of their entertaining camaraderie and successes in the ring. I never expected this tag team at all to be so successful. How can a goofy and wacky Riddle coexist with Randy? When these two opposites were paired together, it was impossible not to be entertained by the absurdity of the pairing.
1. The New Day
The stable received mostly unfavorable feedback from fans and critics early on due to their stereotypical black gospel babyface characters. However, after changing their characters to heels who were fervently devoted to the “power of positivity” in April 2015, they received praise for their entertainment value and in-ring performances. In addition, they always have an instant connection with the WWE universe due to their catchphrases and entertaining entrances.
